Kirklees man jailed following campaign of harassment against victim

A Huddersfield man who blackmailed and harassed a female victim in a two-year campaign of abuse has been jailed.

Amaan Hussain, aged 21, from Huddersfield was sentenced to 21 months in prison at Leeds Crown Court on 30 May, after admitting blackmailing his victim and harassing her in a series of incidents between 2018 and 2020.

The court heard Hussain had harassed his victim by blackmailing her for money and also made threats causing her to fear for both her safety and the safety of her family.

The matters were reported to police in 2020 leading to an investigation by specialist Kirklees detectives.

Hussain was arrested in December 2020 and later charged.

Police Constable Umar Asmal of Kirklees Police, who investigated the case, said: “We welcome the sentencing of Amaan Hussain at court for want was a sustained campaign of blackmail and harassment against his victim.  I hope the victim and her family can take comfort from the sentence imposed on Hussain.”

Detective Sergeant Magee from Kirklees District Police, added: “Dedicated safeguarding officers thoroughly investigate each offence reported to us and can pledge that victims will always be treated sympathetically, with their needs put at the heart of every investigation.
“I would always encourage victims of such offences to come forward so we can investigate and provide the necessary support required.”
