Students and women in Leeds are to be given additional support to stay safer as part of the forces efforts to reduce violence against women.
Police in Leeds have a host of engagement activity planned around the safety of women and girls including events at University Campuses in Freshers Week, additional night time patrols and police presence on public transport throughout the city.
Officers will be present at Leeds Beckett University at both the city and Headingley campus during Freshers Week providing support, advise and give out free resources.
There will be darker nights patrols within the student areas in Leeds to provide reassurance to students who may be new to the city when going home from nights out.
Local Neighbourhood Policing Officers will also be present on both First Bus and Arriva buses to prevent offending and officers will be working with British Transport Police to promote safe travel.
There will also be refresher on active bystander training with door staff within the Leeds night time economy.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lambert of Leeds District Police said:
“Leeds has one of the largest evening and night-time economies in the country and we are committed to continuing in our efforts to keep women and girls across the city safe.
“Alongside our partners, a significant amount of work continues as we want to make sure that the city centre is as safe and free from crime and predatory behaviour as possible.
“As we welcome new and returning student to our universities, it’s important to ensure we are doing all we can to keep our young people and communities safe.”
