A listed city centre building can be converted from a vacant former bank to retail and residential use.
The Royal Bank of Scotland closed its Bradford city centre branch on Bank Street in March 2022, with the Grade II-listed property sold at auction for £315,000 late last year.
Earlier this Summer a planning application to convert the upper floors of the ex-bank into nine flats was submitted to Bradford Council by a Mr Erdem of London-based real estate company Europe Entertainment Ltd.
The building sits between a Greggs and the newly opened Cash Generators pawnbroker.
The ground floor bank space would have its cash machine area removed and replaced with new glazing, and the unit would be marketed as a shop.
Now the application has been approved by planners.
Officers said: “The proposal would retain existing commercial land use on the ground floor and would reuse the disused upper floors under residential use. This arrangement is deemed to contribute to character of this area and wider regenerative aims.”
The property was designed by architects Lockwood and Mawson – who were behind many of Bradford city centre’s grand Victorian buildings.
