Meltham residents and visitors invited to share visions for the future in ‘Ask Meltham 2024’ initiative

Meltham residents and visitors are being asked to share their hopes and ideas for the future of their village.

Along with Meltham Town Council, Kirklees Council is inviting people to get involved in ‘Ask Meltham 2024’. Anyone who lives in, works in or visits Meltham, Helme or Wilshaw, can take part in new activities to share how they feel about their area.

Ask Meltham 2024 is the 30th ‘How good is our place?’ activity in Kirklees and is intended to spark meaningful conversation about any local place across the borough, whether it’s a street, neighbourhood or town.

Anyone who has an interest in Meltham is encouraged to take part, with a series of activities being run from Monday 30 September, to Saturday 26 October 2024, by Meltham Town Council and dedicated local volunteers, with the support of Kirklees Council. The upcoming events are:

Thursday 17 October, from 2pm to 4pm at Meltham Library, Carlile Institute, Huddersfield Road, HD9 4AG

Friday 18 October, from 6pm to 8pm at Wilshaw Village Hall, Wilshaw Road, HD9 4DX

Saturday 19 October, from 11am to 1pm at The Complex, Meltham Sports & Social Club, Mean Lane, HD9 5QT

Saturday 26 October, from 10.30am to 1pm at Meltham Library, Carlile Institute, Huddersfield Road, HD9 4AG

People can also take part online or request a paper questionnaire, with more information on how to do so found by following the link at the bottom of this article.

Five years ago, Ask Meltham 2019 gathered valuable insights from people in Meltham, Helme and Wilshaw about their local area. Since then, lots of projects have already been implemented, based on local people’s priorities, creating revitalised public spaces and flourishing community projects, Kirklees Council says.

The council continued: “Ask Meltham 2024 is an opportunity to assess how these developments have impacted the community and to identify current priorities. New people and businesses have also moved to the area during this time, and the organisers welcome everyone’s involvement in shaping their town.”

Meltham Town Council Mayor, Richard Noon said: “We urge all residents to take part in Ask Meltham 2024. Your input is invaluable in shaping the future of our community. Whether you attend a workshop, complete the questionnaire online or via paper copy, your voice matters. Together, we can build a brighter future for Meltham.”
