A murder investigation is underway following a violent incident in the Newton Street area of Bradford on Friday 6 June
Police were called to the scene at 2.31pm to reports of a group of men fighting in the street with bladed weapons. Emergency services attended and discovered a 19-year-old man with serious injuries. Despite medical intervention, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Four men have been arrested in connection with the incident so far. One has been arrested on suspicion of murder, while the others are being held on suspicion of offences including affray.
A number of police cordons remain in place across the area and officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are leading the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates, who is heading the enquiry, said:
“This was a shocking incident in broad daylight that has tragically resulted in a young man losing his life.
“Our investigation is moving quickly and we have made several early arrests. However, we are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has any footage – such as CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone video – to come forward.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area to offer reassurance to residents, and officers are working closely with colleagues from Bradford District’s Stronger Communities Team to support local communities.”
