Petition in Bradford for converting ‘pavements and public spaces’ into parking is underway

The petition argues that it is difficult for residents in areas like Barkerend and Leeds Road to park their cars close to their homes.

A petition is calling for pavements and public spaces in parts of Bradford to be pulled up and turned into parking for local residents.

The petition calling for the “re-construction of roads and street footpaths to create more car parking space” was recently uploaded to Bradford Council’s website – although details of the petitioners have not been revealed.

It argues that it is difficult for residents in areas like Barkerend and Leeds Road to park their cars close to their homes.

One solution, it suggests, would be to turn pavements and other public spaces into parking for these residents.

The petition urges the council to: “Extend roads to create more parking space, reduce extremely wide footpaths, unused path spaces, reduce dead ends, create more parking on local streets and roads.

“If any funding for consideration to convert any spare public accessible land into public car parks with parking permits for local residents.”

Explaining the need for the changes, the petition says: “In Bradford the majority local areas and many local streets, mostly in BD3, such as streets between Barkerend – Leeds Road and surrounding areas, the roads seem tight for car parking space which is not sufficient.

“It’s difficult to find car parking spots, many have to park streets or even miles away.

“Some schools also lack car parks for pupil/student drop off and collections. Reconstruction of roads and streets would help improve parking.”

So far the petition has been signed by nine people.
