A trial to introduce on-street electric car charging points on Bradford streets has revealed its first locations.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Bradford would be involved in a pilot scheme to introduce charging points in areas where there is little off-street parking.
A lack of suitable charging facilities has been seen as a major hurdle in getting people who live in areas with no off street parking to switch to electric vehicles.
A report to Bradford Council in February revealed: “The Council is participating in a nil-cost pilot with the BT Group to explore use of BT’s on-street points of power to build an accessible public charging network.
“At this initial pilot stage BT will provide installation of up to five public EV charge points, subject to necessary permissions, for the pilot period.”
Now two new planning application have revealed the location of some of these charging points.
One charging location will be on Legrams Lane, with an on street charging post opposite the junction with Willowfield Street and next to a row of marked, on street parking spaces.
The other will be on Folly Hall Road, Wibsey – with two charging points next to on street parking spaces along a triangular patch of green space.
Decisions on the applications are expected next month.
A BT Group spokesperson said: “Our electrical vehicle charging pilots will focus next on West Yorkshire, with ambitions to scale trial sites across the UK.”
