News that a city centre art space will re-open later this year have been welcomed.
Earlier this week it was announced that Loading Bay on Duke Street will re-open in May.
The venue was created as a temporary arts space during Bradford’s City of Culture year, attracting over 40,000 visitors.
The space includes a 200 seat theatre, a gallery and basement performance area.
Bradford Culture Company, which planned most of the City of Culture events, will re-open the venue after months of uncertainty about its future.
Councillor Alex Ross Shaw, Executive for Regeneration, Planning and Transport on Bradford Council, welcomed the move, saying the events held at Loading Bay in 2025 provided a big boost to local bars, restaurants and cafes.
Cllr Ross Shaw says: “Loading Bay does make a difference, so it is exciting it is coming back. It is something we all wanted to see.
“Feedback from businesses on North Parade and the surrounding area have shown they can see an impact when a show is on at Loading Bay.
“It brings in a different crowd.”
He said one couple had travelled to the City Centre from Belgium to attend the Extraordinary Portraits exhibition held last Spring.
