Plan to turn derelict nightclub into flats and shop is approved

A former bar and nightclub next to a shopping parade can be turned into flats and a shop. Jack and Jills, off Allerton Road and behind Allerton Shopping Centre, has been vacant for years.

The bar, and an attached take away, is currently boarded up. A planning application to convert the ground floor into retail and the upper floors into nine flats were submitted by K  Chamberlain earlier this Summer.

The plans were approved by Bradford Council earlier this month.

Planning officers said, “The building is currently redundant and so the development would see the reuse of the building. The loss of the public house/restaurant would not have a significantly negative impact on the viability of the local centre.”

“The proposed flats are of a suitable size to provide adequate amenity space for the future residents. The site is in a sustainable location with easy access to amenities and public transport.”
