Late night noise from a Polish social club was so bad one neighbour said it ruined his family’s weekends, a court heard.
Magistrates have ordered Gabriela Nosal, the designated premises supervisor of the Polish Parish Club on Edmund Street, off Little Horton Lane, to pay more than £1,200.
Nosal, of Canford Drive, was charged with failing to comply with an abatement notice issued to the club after reports of nuisance noise coming from the venue.
The case was heard at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court last week.
Nosal failed to appear, and was found guilty in her absence.
The court heard that Bradford Council received complaints from residents living on Howard Street, which backs onto the club, on November 11, 2021.
Complainants said they could hear loud music coming from the club – on a residential street, late into the night.
Nosal, of Canford Street, was found to be the designated premises supervisor of the club, and was advised that there had been complaints about loud music.
Complainants were given a noise app for their phone, which could be used to record loud music, and log the time that music was heard.
On December 6, the app on one complainant’s phone recorded loud music coming from the club at 10.26pm. The court was told the music seemed to be a performance from a live band.
The Council found that it was enough to be classed as “nuisance” noise, and later that month Nosal was issued an abatement notice ordering her to stop loud noise in the club in the late evening.
But on January 5 a complainant recorded loud music just before 10pm.
When the Council raised the issue with Nosal, she claimed the music must have come from another venue.
On April 3, a complainant recorded loud noise coming from the club at 12.31am.
This was emailed to the Council later that month.
Enis Rice, prosecuting on behalf of Bradford Council, said these incidents proved the abatement notice had been broken.
He read out statements from two complainants.
One said: “I have had a lot of disturbance from the club. Loud, amplified music starts at 6pm and ends at midnight.
“When we have raised it with the club we have been met with a dismissive response. The noise prevents my family from sleeping in rear bedrooms.”
Another said: “Noise pollution has been ongoing for a number of years. It starts in late afternoon and goes on till the early hours.”
They claimed the loud noise “ruined” their weekends.
Magistrates found the case proved in Nosal’s absence. They fined her £440, ordered her to pay £810 costs and a £44 surcharge.
