Property boss to be sentenced in Crown Court next month

This is following issues relating to a Bradford residential building.

A property boss will be sentenced next month for issues relating to a Bradford residential building.

Bhupinder Chohan, of Middlebrook Way, Bradford, has already pleaded guilty to failing to comply with an abatement notice.

The charge relates to an alleged failure to comply with an order to “restore the gas supply to All Saints Hall and Trinity B Hall at Laisteridge Lane Student Village to ensure the satisfactory supply of hot water to the kitchen and bathroom facilities to the buildings.”

It covers a period between 13 May, 2021 and 1 October, 2021 and the charge had been brought by Bradford Council.

Chohan, 56, appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court by videolink on Thursday.

It was the 10th time the case has been listed at the Magistrates Court.

Referring to this, Mrs Walsh, prosecuting on behalf of Bradford Council, said: “This case has had a long and chequered history.”

She said an identical charge against London based B&M Properties LTD was being dropped because the company has since gone into liquidation.

Chohan’s case is likely to be dealt with by a fine, the size of which will be determined by his income. Mrs Walsh said: “The means form the defendant has put forward shows he has little to no income.

“The Council’s position is there ought to be an enquiry into that, considering what we know about his history.”

She asked for the case to be sent to Crown Court for sentencing under the proceeds of crime act.

Chohan will be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on 14 April.
