Safe and Sound health and emergency services to be updated for financial sustainability

Bradford Council’s Executive will hear about work being undertaken to enhance the Safe and Sound Service to provide a more sustainable model for the future.

Safe and Sound, which is part of Adult Social Care, operates in partnership with health and emergency services across the district to provide users with a variety of support mechanisms for people to live safety and independently in their own home. It provides the reassurance that if a user has a fall or accident, help is available through the activation of a control box at home which connects to a control room operator who can action the required response through family members or emergency services.

The current pricing structure for Safe and Sound services in Bradford is significantly lower in comparison to other local authorities across West Yorkshire. The proposed plan is to develop the service with more digital solutions for people and introduce a tiered charging model, where the prices will reflect the level of support needed. This would increase contributions towards the full cost of the service making it more financially sustainable.

Executive are being asked to approve a consultation process on the proposals with users of the service and partner organisations to ensure any changes to the service are done in the most effective way.

“Research shows us that the proportion of our population aged 65 and above is growing which is ultimately increasing demand for services in adult social care,” said Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places. “Re-configuring our Safe and Sound service now in consultation with people using the service enables us to provide a more stable and longer lasting offer that meets the needs of those that use the service.”
