SHEWISE, a London-based community charity devoted to empowering marginalised women facing systemic challenges, including gender-based violence, announces its poignant upcoming art exhibition, “A Thousand Cuts,” to be showcased at its upcoming Seminar and Networking Event at Tower Hamlets Town Hall.
Aligned with the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the event will open at 3pm on 26 November, inviting the public to explore the powerful stories of survivors from South Asian and Middle Eastern backgrounds.
The event will also feature inspiring speakers who will share their personal stories of survival, achievements in business, and practical advice for women in the community. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network, connect with like-minded individuals, and gain insights from experts and peers alike.
The exhibition presents domestic abuse through vivid art, photography, music, and survivor stories, aiming to create an empathetic and safe space for dialogue, healing, and empowerment. “A Thousand Cuts” draws inspiration from Lingchi, an ancient form of torture, as a metaphor for the often invisible, cyclical wounds that domestic abuse inflicts on the psyche.
SHEWISE CEO, Sayeeda Ashraf, shared her perspective on the exhibition’s impact: “Our Tower Hamlets Art Exhibition provides a unique opportunity for survivors, community members, and allies to come together, connect, and foster solidarity.
“We are committed to building culturally sensitive spaces where women can reclaim their sense of self as powerful, independent individuals. We believe that with the right support, mentorship, and resources, women can not only transform their own lives but also drive positive change within their communities.”
