Superstore wants delivery changes

A Bradford supermarket hopes to be able to take deliveries at its service yard through the night so it can guarantee products are available to morning shoppers.

Tesco on Great Horton Road is one of the biggest supermarkets in that area of the city.

When planning permission for the store was granted in 2006 it was on the condition that the store could only receive deliveries to its service yard between 7am and 11pm.

Now the retail giant wants to remove that condition, allowing it to accept deliveries throughout the night.

The application, submitted to Bradford Council, says: “The proposals do not make provision for an increase in the number of deliveries to the store, but instead to allow overnight deliveries which are currently taken via the front door of the store to be taken from the service yard.

“These proposals will allow helps guarantee product availability and makes the store more attractive for customers.

“This is especially relevant to a store of this size, which currently operates between 6am – 12pm Monday-Saturday, with the current overnight delivery arrangements to the front door being unsuitable for efficient restocking.”

A decision on the application is expected next month.
