The Singapore Grand Prix saw McLaren lift the Constructors Championship title

Their drivers finished third and fourth, while George Russell stood on the top step of the podium in Singapore.

The Singapore Grand Prix was the 18th race of the 2025 race season, and the chaotic track brought a great race for fans to enjoy. The track is widely regarded as one of the most physical on the calendar, due to the extreme heat drivers face, along with the track layout putting the racers through physical challenges.

Before the Grand Prix, McLaren had the opportunity to seal the Constructors’ Championship, which they eventually secured following their driver pairing’s finishing positions.

George Russell racing for Mercedes, put his car on pole position and was able to turn his first place start into a first-place finish. He secured his second win of the year, with his last GP win being in Canada in June. The most recent win for him was seemingly straight forward, with the main action coming from behind him.

The other two drivers to stand on the podium with Russell were Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Verstappen finished 5.4 seconds behind the race winner, but the gap to third was even closer. 0.6 seconds was the gap between Verstappen and Norris, who has closed the gap to his team-mate Oscar Piastri in the Drivers’ Championship.

The gap between the leader Piastri, and Norris in third, is now 24 points. Things were tense between the McLaren teammates at the start of the race, as Norris made contact with Piastri, leaving the Australian unhappy. On the radio, he said: “That wasn’t very team-like, but sure.”

With both McLaren drivers being third and fourth, their team cannot be beaten in the Constructors’ Championship, currently sitting on 650 points. Mercedes, who are second, are on 325 points, Ferrari are third with 300 points and Red Bull Racing are just 10 behind the Italian team, on 290 points. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished sixth and seventh respectively, to bring home 14 points for their team.

There are six races left between now and the end of the season, with the next Grand Prix coming in two weeks’ time, in the USA. The Circuit of the Americas, commonly called ‘COTA’, could see a change in Championship leader at the end of the race, following Norris closing the gap by three points at the weekend.

Carlos Sainz, who left Ferrari last season, signed for Williams and has impressed since sitting in the cockpit for his new team. Both Williams drivers were disqualified from qualifying at the weekend due to technical breaches, but the Spanish number 55 drove an excellent race to secure a points finish for him and his team. Albeit only one point picked up, come the end of the season, it could be crucial for the team sat fifth in the Constructors Championship.

Although Oscar Piastri sits top of the Drivers’ Championship, the end-of-season intensity will no doubt start to rise as Norris also eyes up the first spot in the standings. McLaren’s problem is keeping both drivers happy, with one expected to be heartbroken come the end of the season in Abu Dhabi.
