Prashad’s probably one of the very few all-vegetarian curry restaurants in Bradford, managed to win the hearts of judges at Bradford Curry Awards held at the Bradford Hotel on Monday, 10 July.
An eminent all-women panel of judges, consisting of Cllr Naheed Mather, Parveen Ashraf and Sarah Woods chose Prashad as their choice of best curry restaurant in Bradford looking into an all-round experience of the restaurant, including food, ambience, presentation, and experience.
Competing with Prashad in the category were, Bala Hissar, International, Lala’s Leeds Bradford, MyLahore and Akbar’s
Prashad, a fine-dine vegetarian restaurant located in Drighlington, began back in 1992, as a small Indian mithai shop. It slowly gained popularity, as the owners introduced more seats and presented Gujarati vegetarian dishes.
Prashad apart from being crowned the Judges choice of the best curry restaurant in Bradford, has quite a few feathers up his hat. Being one of the finalists in Gordon Ramsay’s show is one of them.
Bobby Patel, who manages Prashad, after winning the award said: “I think it’s fantastic, we have won the judges award. It’s an honour for us, they were really amazing judges, it’s a big competition and I am really proud of the team.”
Asian Standard had spoken to Bobby, a week before awards were announced and at that time he had said that Prashad was “very much about understanding my parents who founded the business, understanding their ethos, which was all about quality and authenticity. From the beginning, the vision was always to keep things original, and make sure that we offer the customers of Bradford an authentic taste. One of my youngest memories of the restaurant, of my mom and dad, was how much they would be involved in the community. They were catering for thousands of people in weddings. They were very charitable; they were generally giving.”
