Linthwaite residents say they don’t want anymore “low-value takeaways and vape shops” as plans for a new Domino’s Pizza await a decision from Kirklees Council.
An application from the takeaway giant would see the premises of the former Captains Table fish and chip restaurant transformed into a new Domino’s. Under the plans, the takeaway would open between 11:00am and 11:00pm daily and provide some part time and full time job opportunities to the local community, the applicant says.
However, some objections have been voiced by locals, with one resident saying: “It is not in the interest of the community to grant this application, we are already inundated with take away premises within a small area that has been granted applications for housing developments with no supporting amenities.”
They added: “While the current building is an eyesore and the managing agents should be asked to keep the premises maintained while vacant, the community and other businesses do not want a chain fast food brand that adds to Linthwaite not being developed like Slaithwaite and Marsden.”
Another resident commented: “Linthwaite already has two pizza takeaways on the same row of shops. Not needed, and will likely result in the two long standing businesses closing down due to competition. Linthwaite needs more facilities, not low value takeaways and vape shops.”
A decision was expected on the plans at the beginning of the month but is yet to be made.
