BRADFORD Interchange could be replaced by more than one new bus station – a new report has hinted.
After a year long closure for safety reasons, the bus station section of the Interchange finally reopened in January.
Although structural reports into the 1970s Interchange found it was safe to re-open, they pointed out that the station was reaching the end of its life span, and would need t be replaced in the near future.
Little detail of any potential replacement has been made public, although West Yorkshire Combined Authority is expected to receive a “strategic assessment” on the replacement in the coming months.
That assessment is expected to look at the need for a new bus station and on how services could be managed in Bradford city centre separate from the Interchange.
Tonight, Bradford Council’s Regeneration and Environment Scrutiny Committee will receive an update on various transport schemes in the District.
A section on the Interchange seems to suggest that the replacement may not be in the form of a single new station.
It says: “Bradford Interchange, although reopened in January 2025, has a limited lifespan. West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Council officers are working to consider how buses can best serve Bradford city centre and the Southern Gateway in the future.
“This work is expected to culminate in the creation of one or more new bus hubs / stations in the city centre.”
