Tyson Fury confirmed at the start of January that he will return to the ring in 2026. It is believed that he will fight twice this year, taking a warm-up fight in the earlier part of ’26, before boxing again in the latter stages of the year. April is believed to be around the time Fury will return to boxing.
Eddie Hearn believes Tyson Fury is in his ‘prime’, with him saying, “I think he’s [Fury] an incredible fighter. I think he’s brilliant for the game. And he can be involved in some huge fights. And by the way, he’s still in his prime. He lost two very close fights to Oleksandr Usyk. It’s not like, ‘oh, he’s finished now’.”
Fury has been taking to social media to show fans his preparations before his return to the ring, with him posting clips online of his training sessions.
In a video on social media, he said, “I’ve ran four miles this morning and done 15 rounds of boxing. I’m in week four of my camp as my preparations continue.” On Monday, he posted a picture of himself with two other fighters with the caption, ‘great bit of sparring January 2026.’
With a return in the pipeline, his opponents are yet to be announced or rumoured. His last two fights were both against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk, with the Eastern European winning on points against the Brit on both occasions.
Following the devastating car crash, which took the lives of two of Anthony Joshua’s close friends, the future of AJ in the ring is uncertain. Many people believe he will retire from boxing following the accident, while others believe he will continue. Since defeating Fury, Usyk took to the ring to fight Daniel Dubois, who won vs Joshua in September 2024.
The experienced Usyk won once again and defeated Dubois by knockout in round five. The 39-year-old has highlighted his dominance in boxing and has won against Fury, Dubois and Joshua since 2022.
While a fight between Joshua and Fury was strongly rumoured for 2026, the likelihood of it happening has taken a huge blow, following the sad car crash in Nigeria. Hearn said: “The key will be, if and when, Anthony chooses to return to boxing. When he does that, or if he does that, we will then start to see what a roadmap looks like. But as I said, at the moment, those conversations are a long way away.”
Boxing fans from around the world are eagerly waiting to see who the Gypsy King will fight upon his return, but for now, his supporters need to wait patiently before anything is confirmed. The teasers on social media of him training are exciting his fans, who have taken to the comments to show their support for the 37-year old.
