New test reveals staggering number of how much households spend on tech

One of the biggest brands in the world; Apple releases a new device every year. Whether it’s the new iPhone or a new Macbook. Brands like Apple bring out new products every single year to meet the demand of the public.

But have you ever wondered how much an average person normally spends on technology each year?

A new study by Trusted Reviews shows how the UK spends over £1,800 on technology. That’s the equivalent to buying a cheap car and getting it insured for a year!

With the Black Friday sales coming up, Trusted Review believes this spike will only increase as brands normally reduce the price of their products to lure people in to spend more in the holiday season. You’ll see in the coming weeks how brands will try and sell you all the different types of devices they have and the massive surge or advertisement you’ll watch flooding your TV screens.

Commenting on the study, a spokesperson for Trusted Reviews said: “Black Friday is just around the corner and as people all over the country search for bargains it’s interesting to see the variations across each region when it comes to technology spending. The data shows that people living in the South East are the nation’s biggest spenders when it comes to technology and gadgets, but it’s likely everyone will be ramping up their spending as we approach Christmas.”

You might be like me and think I never had a mobile phone growing up. The good old days of playing outside and enjoying the fresh air. Whatever weather it was, it felt compulsory to play outside for hours on end but now things have changed.

Having worked in the school setting myself, I’ve seen a variety of kids have mobile phones. Some schools I’ve visited have also strict rules when it comes to using phones on an emergency basis only.

I don’t know about you, but the first thing I check when I get up is my mobile phone to see what’s happened whilst I was asleep!

Within the study, individuals who live in the Southeast of England spend a whopping £2000 a year on technology, the highest in the UK.

In Yorkshire and The Humber, on average £1,721.20 is spent on technology per household with individuals who spend at least £748.35 annually.

The next time you decide to upgrade your phone or buy that watch you probably might not use very often, think about how much it could cost you annually and maybe save it towards a well deserved holiday instead!
