The Conservative Party candidate, Ben Houchen, has been announced as winner in the Tees Valley Mayoral elections, with a win of 81,930 votes. This puts him with a substantial 18,789 ahead of his nearest rival, Labour’s Chris McEwan.
His re – election will see him embarking on a third term as Mayor. His win is significant as the Conservatives appear to be losing heavily in the Mayoral elections across the country.
Mr Houchen commented:
“To be re-elected for a third term in my home, in my community, is absolutely the greatest honour that anybody could ever give me.”
