14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi hits the headlines in the T20 cricket

Indian cricketer Suryavanshi shocked cricket fans after hitting a superb 35-ball hundred.

At just 14-years-old and in his third Indian Premier League appearance, Vaibhav Suryavanshi recorded the second-fastest century in IPL history.

The teen made his IPL debut earlier on in April, just a few days after he turned 14.

He helped to fire his side Rajasthan Royals to victory against Gujarat Titans in the competition. The teenager hit a ball for six on his debut in the T20 competition, just highlighting how much skill he has.

The second-youngest player to hit an IPL century is Manish Pandey, who is five years older than the 14-year-old sensation.

He totalled a score of 101 from only 38 deliveries in the match. 11 of his shots were sixes and seven were hit for fours.

It is not the first time Suryavanshi has broken records, as he became the youngest player bought in IPL history, for a fee of ÂŁ105,000 by Rajasthan Royals.

Playing on the biggest stage in cricket clearly does not seem to phase the youngster, who week on week is continuously breaking records.

Rajasthan Royals picked up a much-needed win in the game against Gujarat Titans, as the Royals picked up their third win of the season, against a team who could have gone top of the IPL after 10 matches played across the league. The home side won the match by eight wickets.

The Gujarat Titans have played one match less than the league leaders and they have won six of their opening nine fixtures.

Suryavanshi was batting for 60 minutes and managed to total 101 runs, highlighting his impressive skills when it comes to batting.

The 2011-born played a huge part in keeping his side’s hopes alive of reaching the IPL knockouts, with the Titans being six points behind fourth spot. Upcoming fixtures are not easy however, with the team facing two sides inside the top four, in their final run-in.

Although Suryavanshi is still extremely young and has started to create a name for himself for the first-team, his quality has also been clear at the under-19 level. This is because he hit a splendid 58-ball century against Australia in a youth Test fixture.

Even though this is impressive, his spectacular performance in his third IPL match will remain as the headlines and will be a performance that sticks out in his head the most.

Hitting the highs that he has so early on in his career can bring huge amounts of pressure but that does not seem to phase the teenager at this moment in time, who is enjoying his cricket and loving each match as it comes.

What is even more impressive is that despite his clear talent, he is unable to feature in the under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, due to players needing to be over the age of 14-years-old.

At such a young age, nobody knows how far Vaibhav Suryavanshi can go in the game, both domestically and nationally. When some players are breaking through in their late teens, if the 14-year-old carries on the way he is, he will be a well-known starter with years of experience in four to five years’ time.

With younger players breaking through in sports it can also bring in new fans to the sport, with keen interest in those players in particular. Other examples are Luke Littler in darts and Lamine Yamal in football.

How far do you think the Indian can go in the cricket game and will he become one of the very greats to play the game?
