Sweet ambitions: Regal Foods’ flagship patisserie set to revitalise Bradford site

Plans for a “flagship” patisserie by one of Bradford’s best-known food companies have been given the green light.

Patisserie Regal, the latest venture from Regal Foods, will open in a former bathroom showroom on Young Street, off Thornton Road near The Range. The new site will showcase an array of cakes, pastries and sweets made by the 24-year-old Bradford business, and is expected to create around ten jobs.

The building, which has stood empty since 2018, will undergo a substantial refit, with plans including a showroom, kitchen and staff facilities.

Founded in 2001 in the heart of Yorkshire, Regal Foods has grown into an internationally recognised innovator, manufacturer and exporter of world foods, bakery and confectionery. Its head office and manufacturing base are located nearby on Wallis Street.

The company’s planning application described the new patisserie as a “high-class artisan bakery” that will bring “new vitality” to the area. It added:

“Regal Foods have owned this property since 2015. After years of unsuccessful attempts to lease the space, we have decided to open an exciting new facility to showcase our high-quality products. This flagship business will not only revitalise a long-standing vacant property but also celebrate the quality and reputation of our brand.”

Bradford Council approved the change of use this week, with planning officers noting that both the current and proposed uses fall under Class E commercial use, making the conversion acceptable.

The patisserie is expected to open daily from 9am to 10pm.
