Bradford Council to auction semi-rural Thornton land as part of asset sell-off

Bradford Council will sell a four-acre plot of land in Thornton next month as part of efforts to reduce its deficit and prevent bankruptcy.

A plot of Council owned land in a “semi-rural” area of the district will be sold at auction next month.

The four-acre site off Green Lane in Thornton is one of over 150 assets Bradford Council has decided to sell in a bid to balance its books and avoid bankruptcy.

The land currently has a tenant and brings £492 a year income for the Council, but the auction listing says it “may be suitable for a number of uses.”

The land is one of a number of lots listed at a Pugh property auction being held online on 25 November, and will have a guide price of £35,000.

The listing described the lot as “A parcel of freehold land extending to approximately 1.65 hectares (4.08 acres) and primarily comprising open grassland.

“The plot is located to the west of Green Lane in a semi-rural area of Thornton, to the south of the village centre.

“The plot is sold subject to a tenancy commencing 2012 and detailing an annual rent of £492. “Subject to any necessary consents, the land may be suitable for a number of uses.”
