National leaders from health, social care and community organisations will gather in Bradford this week to look at ways they can help improve the health and social needs of the population and reduce health inequalities.
The event will be led by the Centre for Population Health, a think tank that helps to make improvements across the health and care system, and will be their first ever conference.
It will take place in one of Bradford’s arts and community venues, Kala Sangam and will showcase some of the work being carried out locally by health and voluntary sector organisations to improve lives and help address health inequalities.
Professor Durka Dougall, CEO of the Centre for Population Health, said: “We are delighted to be bringing the conference to Bradford as it’s a place dedicated to communities and tackling health inequalities.”
“Population Health is focused on making improvements to our population’s health and wellbeing through collaborative working between our health, social care and community partners, for the populations and communities we serve. It focuses on four shifts; preventing the overarching causes of ill health, improving services, ensuring support closer to home and importantly tackling the unfair and the stark health inequalities that exist.”
Panellist, Professor Sohail Abbas, Director for the Reducing Inequalities Alliance, at Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership and Deputy Medical Director, at NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, said: “Reducing health inequalities requires the collective efforts of partners from across health and social care and our local communities.
“The Covid-19 pandemic showed how health inequalities affected some communities and population groups more so than others. Much of this learning has been used to develop a population health management approach by health and care partners.”
“I am looking forward to showcasing some of the work we have done across the district and also meeting with other leaders to share best practice and take practical steps in driving forward our approach to reducing health inequalities.”
The conference will take place on Wednesday 27 November 2024, from 8.30am until 4.30pm at Kala Sangam in Bradford. For more information, please visit: https://centreforpopulationhealth.co.uk/2024-conference
