Bradford Literature Festival’s first family fun day this Sunday

Find out what activities are going on this Sunday as part of Bradford Lit Fest's first Family Fun Day in Bowling Park.

Bradford Literature Festival’s first Family Fun Day is taking place on Sunday 15 August in Bowling Park with free entry and plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy.

The day includes storytelling, live theatre and music, creative workshops, craft sessions, food stalls, a host of walkabout characters, a family funfair and more.

Award-winning family theatre company Wrongsemble will be performing a magical musical pop up adventure, performing Magician’s Monster, with all the magic of the circus, suitable for all ages.

Bradford Stories, an initiative that helps improve literacy through unique, community-driven projects, will be hiding book packs for families to find. Keep your eyes peeled and you might receive a free book to read and enjoy. You’ll also be able to pick up your free Nature Quest activity, which will take you on an exciting adventure through the park, including a scavenger hunt and puzzles to complete.

There is a special opportunity to take part in clay model making workshops inspired by the Peter Pan statue in Lister Park. Cecil Green Arts, a collective of visual artists who have lots of years of experience in leading community arts projects, will be encouraging children to make their own fantastical creatures out of clay. The wonderful animals will all come together as part of a special installation at Lister Park on Saturday 4 September.

Jumana Moon and Sue Dyde will be leading interactive storytelling sessions using characters and props to engage children in a love of literature, including a bedtime stories session for younger children.

There is also the chance to brush up or learn some circus skills, including plate spinning, juggling, poi and diabolo with Open Source Arts.

Morwenna Catt will be hosting a drop-in craft-making station where visitors can make fun, playful crafts inspired by the Wrongsemble shows.

Leeds Dance Studio will be inviting children to get active in their dance workshop. The youngest visitors will be entertained with a Baby Rave led by Boom Chikka Boom.

The fun day will also feature two fantastic live bands. The ‘moustache powered tubadours’ that are Biscuithead and the Biscuit Badgers will bring their ‘irresistibly daft’ music to the event, as well as welcoming the incredible talent that is the Funky Dholis. Their fusion of styles and high energy music will get everyone on their feet and dancing.

The family fun day is free to all with no need to book. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The family fun days will be held at three other locations across Bradford including:

  • Victoria Park, Keighley – Saturday 21st August
  • Peel Park – Saturday 28th August
  • Lister Park – Saturday 4th September
