The Lord Mayor of Bradford Cllr Doreen Lee has written to Captain Sir Tom Moore to wish him a speedy recovery.

The Keighley-born centenarian was admitted to hospital in Bedford at the weekend with pneumonia and COVID-19.

Cllr Doreen Lee has written: “I am writing to send you my heartfelt good wishes, together with those of the people of the Bradford district, for a full and speedy recovery.

“I know that your daughters and family are hugely supportive and, together with our wonderful NHS staff, will be making sure you are well cared-for. This will, I feel sure, boost your return to good health.

“We all certainly hope that it is not too long before you are back at home and your strength, spirits and vitality are wholly restored.”

Captain Sir Tom attracted admiration and touched the hearts of people around the world by raising over £30 million for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden on the eve of his 100th birthday in April 2020.

He was also the oldest person to reach number 1in the UK singles charts by featuring on Michael Ball’s cover of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ which raised further funds for the NHS.
