Bradford’s museums service awarded £125,000 funding to help cement City of Culture legacy

A £125,000 grant to Bradford’s Museums and Galleries service will help cement the legacy of the Distirct’s City of Culture year.

Arts Council England has awarded the cash to Bradford Council’s museums service as part of its Museum Renewal Fund – which has seem millions distributed across the UK.

Bradford Council runs four museums and galleries, Cartwright Hall in Lister Park, Bolling Hall Museum, Bradford Industrial Museum and Cliffe Castle Museum in Keighley.

The Museum Renewal Fund is funded by the UK Government through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and is administered by Arts Council England.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places said the funding “Will play a vital role in strengthening the future of Bradford District Museums and Galleries.

She added: “This funding will support essential work in reviewing our collections, ensuring they are more accessible, relevant, and sustainable for future generations.

“It will also enable us to enhance digital access, opening up the district’s rich heritage to broader audiences both locally and globally. Additionally, the fund will support a review of our commercial operations, helping us to build a more resilient and innovative service as we look to the legacy of Bradford’s year as UK City of Culture 2025.

“This investment is a welcome acknowledgement of the value our museums and galleries bring to the district and reflects the national recognition of the vital role our museums play in the life of the district”
