Exceptional achievements shine bright in the King’s New Year Honours: Over 1,200 recognised for generosity and impact, including knighthoods for Sajid Javid and Newcastle’s Professor Amritpal Singh

In a celebration of extraordinary accomplishments, this year’s King’s New Year Honours has proudly awarded over 1,200 recipients for their exceptional contributions, with a special emphasis on those who have demonstrated exceptional generosity towards others in need. From dedicated community champions and inspirational figures in sports to pioneering artists, passionate health workers, and devoted supporters of young people, the diversity of the honourees mirrors the myriad ways individuals can positively shape our society.

Under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the honours are distributed across the entire UK, reflecting and celebrating the incredible contributions of people throughout the country. Notable among this year’s honourees is the Knighthood awarded to former Health Secretary Sajid Javid and Professor Amritpal Singh HUNGIN OBE DL, Emeritus Professor of General Practice at Newcastle University, for his outstanding services to Medicine. Professor Singh’s illustrious career spanning over 30 years in general practice and clinical research has left an indelible mark on patient care, clinical innovation, and medical education.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak remarked, “The New Year Honours List recognises the exceptional achievements of people across the country and those who have shown the highest commitment to selflessness and compassion. To all honourees, you are the pride of this country and an inspiration to us all.”

Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon. Oliver Dowden CBE MP, extended warm congratulations to the honourees, stating, “This year’s New Year Honours List celebrates the most selfless, compassionate people in the UK. I send them all my warmest congratulations for what they have achieved.” He highlighted the historic significance of the honours system, designed to spotlight heroic contributions and inspire others to nominate deserving individuals for future recognition. The captivating stories from across the entire UK are hoped to kindle a spirit of nomination and honour for the remarkable deeds of individuals in the years to come.
