Fans went into a frenzy as world heavyweight boxing champion, Deontay Wilder landed in Batley.

The boxing champ who goes by the nicknames the Bronze Bomber and the Alabama Slammer came to open the second branch of Bradford’s popular eatery Mr T’s on Bradford Road, in Batley.

The restaurant chain is no stranger to boxing stars, as they have already had Tyson Fury and Floyd Mayweather visit their Bradford branch.

While getting mobbed by fans the Wilder managed to enjoy some food, which included having a milkshake named after him and interact with media.

Owner of the restaurant chain, Tauseef Malik told Asian Sunday: “It’s been a great pleasure having Deontay Wilder come and open our second branch. I am glad he enjoyed his experience and am grateful to all the fans who turned up to see him.

Wilder responded on his Instagram by writing: “#Manchester/ #Batley is lit right now.

“Thanks to all my UK fan for the continuous love you give. What an amazing time every damn time from start literally to finish you guys don’t stop.”

Also present were Kirklees Council Leader Shabir Pandor and Batley and Spen MP Tracy Brabin.

Cllr Pandor wrote on his social media: “He’s a knockout! Great to meet the @WBCBoxing champ of the world, Deontay Wilder  @BronzeBomber at the opening of Mr T’s in #Batley. DW is a big man with a big heart. His ambition matches that of the owners of yet another new enterprise in my hometown. “

MP Tracy Brabin also welcomed the visit and wrote: “Had an amazing time at the grand opening of Mr T’s restaurant in Batley, with special guest and heavyweight boxing champion of the world Deontay Wilder. It’s amazing to see so many businesses choosing Batley to be their home, and for us to welcome a world class athlete.”

Wilder also paid a visit to Bradford, where he was pampered by the award winning Prity’s for a facial before heading to Mr T’s.

The facial has now become popular with Wilder endorsing it on his Instagram.

Wilder wrote: “I just got a Wilder facial, it was terrific, you’ve got to come in and get it.

“If you want your face to feel refreshed, then Prity salon is the place.”

As of May 2019, Wilder, 33, was ranked as the world’s second-best active heavyweight by BoxRec, and third by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and The Ring magazine.
