Man arrested for ‘racist attack’ after knife incident near Bradford College as police appeal for witnesses and footage

A man has been arrested following an incident near Bradford College on the morning of Thursday 10 October which left two members of the public injured.

Police were called at around 9.21am to reports of a man armed with what appeared to be a knife on Great Horton Road. The suspect was detained by college security staff before being arrested by attending officers.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two members of the public and two emergency workers, as well as for a racially aggravated public order offence and causing damage to a police vehicle.

The two injured members of the public were taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers have confirmed that a small gardening tool was seized at the scene.

Detective Inspector Ailis Coates of Bradford District CID said:

“We know that this incident will understandably cause some concern in the community. I would like to reassure people that the suspect was quickly detained by security staff and arrested by the police.

“We understand that this incident has been witnessed by a large number of people and that some may have filmed parts of it. We would ask them to please share this footage with the police as it could greatly assist our ongoing investigation.”

A police scene remains in place on Great Horton Road, with neighbourhood policing officers providing reassurance to college staff, students, and the wider community.
