Manhunt Intensifies: Police issue urgent appeal for suspect in Bradford murder probe

West Yorkshire Police have launched a desperate search for Habibur Masum, 25, following the tragic stabbing death of a woman in the heart of the city. Masum, hailing from the Oldham area, is now the subject of a nationwide manhunt as investigators work tirelessly to bring him to justice.

The incident unfolded in the Westgate area of Bradford city centre on Saturday afternoon, (6 April) sending shockwaves through the community. With Masum on the run, law enforcement officials are urging members of the public to come forward with any information that may lead to his whereabouts.

Described as an Asian man of slender build, Masum was captured on CCTV footage sporting distinctive clothing—a duffle coat adorned with three prominent horizontal lines of grey, white, and black, paired with light blue or grey tracksuit bottoms featuring a small black emblem on the left pocket, and maroon trainers. Eyewitnesses also recall seeing him donning a grey hoodie with the hood pulled up.

Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement to track him down, Masum’s current location remains unknown, prompting fears that he may still be armed.

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, leading the investigation, issued a stark warning, urging the public not to approach Masum if spotted but instead to immediately contact emergency services.

“We have had significant resources following up a number of lines of enquiry to locate Habibur Masum, but at this time his whereabouts are unknown,” stated Atkinson.

“A knife was recovered from the scene of the murder, but we cannot say if Habibur Masum is armed, and I would urge anyone who does see him not to approach him but to call 999 immediately.”

Residents of Bradford are reassured of a heightened police presence as authorities continue their investigations and undertake patrols to provide support and comfort to the community during this distressing time.

In light of the urgency of the situation, West Yorkshire Police have issued a direct appeal to the public, urging anyone with information regarding Masum’s movements or whereabouts since the incident to come forward without delay.

Sightings of Habibur Masum should be reported to West Yorkshire Police via 999, while any additional information pertinent to the investigation can be provided via Live Chat online or by calling 101, quoting log 1071 of 6 April.
