New 37-home housing plan revealed for Batley

Plans for a new 37-home development in Batley are awaiting a decision from Kirklees Council.

The application from Jones Homes and M62 Developments seeks permission to build the properties on a plot of land off White Lee Road. The site sits to the west of Batley town centre and is a green field primarily made up of scrub and overgrown grassland. Supporting documents say that the plot is designated as urban green space but is “poorly maintained”.

The site is accessible via White Lee Gardens – another housing development which was built by the same applicant. It is envisaged that the existing estate’s main road – Sunny View – will be extended and branch off to provide access to the proposed new properties.

Under the plans, the houses would be a mixture of detached and semi-detached and provide a range of two to four bedrooms. Each property would have a private garden to the rear, a minimum of two parking spaces and some of the larger homes would come with garages.

A statement on behalf of the developer says: “The development will provide a positive addition to the settlement, extending the existing street scene of Sunny View. A generous amount of public open space is proposed within the scheme design to lessen any visual impact on the surrounding area, and enhance the biodiversity of the proposal.

“The landscaping proposals, provided by Pegasus, include a large enhanced area of urban green space. This includes a potential zone for allotments, an area for informal recreation, alongside proposed planting proposals and an attenuation scheme.

“Improved access to the green space provided has also been included within the scheme. These spaces will provide recreation and amenity space for future residents of the scheme, and existing residents within the surrounding area.”

A target date for a decision to be made by the council has been set for 7 May.
