A new online system is set to speed up the taxi licensing applications process in Darlington and make it more convenient for drivers and operators to use.
Darlington Borough Council’s licensing department has been working with software company to develop the system which will be launched on Thursday 1 September.
The new system will allow taxi and private hire vehicle owners and drivers to make their applications and payment at any time, from wherever they are, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Councillor Mike Renton, the council’s cabinet member for stronger communities, said:
“This is a significant step in modernising the licensing service.
“We’ve been working with those in the trade to develop and test the new system and moving it online will make it a much easier and quicker process for both taxi and private hire drivers and owners.
“Our staff within the licensing department will also be on hand to offer help and support, and face to face appointments can still be booked when needed.”
