Plans submitted for new shisha café and coffee shop on Linthorpe Road
A new shisha café and coffee shop could open on Linthorpe Road after plans were submitted to Middlesbrough Council.
The application seeks permission for a change of use at a currently vacant premises, along with external alterations to accommodate the proposed business.
Planning documents describe the previous use of the building as “not known” and “closed”. The site was previously occupied by Haus of Daggerz, a beauty salon, tattoo and piercing studio. The business announced on social media in April that its owner would be moving operations to a studio space from July.
Plans submitted to the council show a coffee shop layout inside the building, with seating positioned near the entrance and a kitchen located towards the rear.
The proposal also includes dedicated outdoor areas for shisha use. A seating area covered by foldable canopies is planned at the front of the property, while additional seating would be provided in the rear yard.
According to planning documents, smoking shisha would only be permitted in the outdoor front and rear seating areas, while the interior would operate solely as a coffee shop.
The proposed venue would be located two doors away from the Middlesbrough branch of Wetherspoons on Linthorpe Road.
If approved, the business would employ five members of staff, including two full-time and three part-time workers.
The application comes shortly after separate plans were submitted to Middlesbrough Development Corporation for another shisha café at the northern end of Linthorpe Road, potentially adding to the growing number of similar venues in the town centre.
The application will be considered by Middlesbrough Council at a later date.
