Pilot project to save money on school uniforms launched

A new project funded by Bradford Council to help single-parent families save for children’s school uniforms has launched.

UniformSavers is a new project by Bradford District Credit Union (BDCU) funded by Bradford Council to help single-parent families get into the savings habit and save for children’s uniforms ready for the new school year in August 2022.

This pilot project is funded by Bradford Council and is open to all Bradford District residents. BDCU is ‘faith friendly’ as they do not pay interest but a dividend that is permissible in the Islamic faith.

By saving £10 a month for your child’s uniform, Bradford Council will pay £100 into your account in August.

To be eligible, you must be a single parent receiving Child Benefit (CHB), paying council tax to Bradford Council and living in the Bradford District.

If you meet the criteria, you will need to attend an account opening interview at Bradford Council at either Britannia House in the city centre or Keighley Town Hall.

Existing members can also apply for a UniformSavers account, but you will not be able to access the savings before August 2020.

You will get the £100 if you save regularly into the account and Bradford Council will decide if you are eligible.

If you meet the above criteria, or you want to refer someone who does, please email the person’s name and contact information to uniformSavers@bradford.gov.uk
