Tea and chai party organised to celebrate Platinum Jubilee

Bradford council have organised the Bradford Great Jubilee tea event in City Park.

Bradford district has organised a whole host of street parties, picnics, tea and chai parties, barbeques and community events to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Over 170 community events and activities have been supported by the Bradford Council’s Platinum Jubilee Small Grants scheme.

The events are aimed to bring local people together to have fun, get to know each other and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen will mark her 70th anniversary in June

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places said: “People from across the Bradford district have been so creative in their ideas of how they’d like to bring people together.

“There are so many events including community exhibitions to celebrate her 70-year reign, crafting sessions to create an LGBTQ+ pride flag of diversity, art projects, photo and story sharing

“People are organising chai afternoons and tea dances, barbeques, suppers and cake baking and cake decorating”.

Community activities will range from galas, teddy bear picnics, fancy dress competitions and community suppers, to knit and natter sessions, treasure hunts, quizzes, tree planting and cultural afternoons.

“There are events for people who are experiencing homelessness, isolation or loneliness, there are dementia friendly events and intergenerational and intercultural events all reflecting the diverse communities of our district and of the Queen’s Commonwealth”, adds Cllr Sarah.

“There is such a diverse range of activities and events that there really is something for everyone.”

Events will run across the district, including the Bradford Great Jubilee Tea event on Thursday 2 June in City Park which will begin at 6.30pm, and include the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon and family fun events in five parks across the district.
