Two arrests made following firearms discharge in Huddersfield

A man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries to his shoulder consistent with a firearms discharge.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the firearms discharge on Blacker Road, Birkby, Huddersfield, on Tuesday evening.

A 29-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 53-year-old female has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both remain in police custody at this time.

Detectives are continuing with enquiries into the incident and are still appealing to members of the public who may have any information to come forward.

At 9.04pm on Tuesday police received reports of a male who had been injured following an alleged firearms discharge outside a takeaway on Blacker Road.

Officers attended and found a 28-year-old male with minor injuries to his shoulder consistent with the discharge of a firearm with the victim taken to the hospital for treatment.

Detective Inspector Matthew Holdsworth of the Major Enquiry Team said: “Our enquiries are in the initial stages and we are very keen to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area of Blacker Road last night.

“We recognise that incidents of this nature will cause understandable concern in the local community and we are liaising with our colleagues on the local neighbourhood policing team who will be visible in the area to reassure people.

“The criminal use of firearms on the streets is something that we will always treat extremely seriously, and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible.”
