A former council-run children’s centre in East Leeds could soon be transformed, after being placed on the market with a guide price of at least £290,000.
Leeds City Council has put Gipton South Children’s Centre on Coldcotes Grove up for auction, having deemed the building surplus to requirements. Services will be re-located to nearby facilities including the Dame Fanny Waterman Centre and Osmondthorpe Children’s Centre.
The single-storey property offers just under 2,500 sq ft of space and, according to Pugh Auctions, may be suitable for a range of new uses — from residential redevelopment to continued community use, subject to planning consent.
The sale follows a wider restructure of children’s centres across Leeds, with 18 closures announced by the council. Although Gipton South was among the centres to remain open, the current building was considered too costly to maintain.
Formal bids will be invited in January. The site benefits from local shops, bus routes, parks and strong transport links via the A64 and M62, with Leeds city centre around three miles away.
