Celebrations for International Women’s Day to take place across the Bradford district

Here's how Bradford will be marking International Women's Day 2022.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 8 March, marks the official IWD, however, organisations from across the district have come together to bring you a programme of events throughout March for the global celebration of women’s achievements.

The IWD civic flag-raising ceremony on 8th March at 10am in Centenary Square, will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Shabir Hussain.

The theme for IWD this year is #BreakTheBias to collectively create a gender-equal world.

Bradford Council Leader Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe said: “Our Bradford district has a proud history of pioneering women who embody the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day and truly Break The Bias.

“International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to remember those women and be inspired by them. We all look to a more equal world, one which is free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination and where difference is valued and celebrated.

“So many great activities and events are taking place across the whole of the district and I would encourage anyone whatever their gender to get involved.”
