Major vaccination round-up of COVID-19 and flue-jabs in Huddersfield for Kirklees shoppers!

The residents within the Kirklees region will be able to get their COVID-19 vaccinations whilst getting their shopping this weekend as Kirklees Council and NHS Kirklees plans to hold drop-in sessions as part of the NHS’s national vaccination weekend.

The initiative is to not only do drop-in sessions across Kirklees but in particular across the nation as COVID cases are on the rise. The drop-in sessions will allow shoppers to get their COVID jab or flu-jab without having to book an appointment at their local doctors surgery or pharmacy.

One of the major shopping centres in Kirklees – Kingsgate in Huddersfield will host the drop-in clinic from 10am-4pm on Saturday 27 and 11am-2pm on Sunday 28 November.

Both doses of the vaccination will be available at Kingsgate to anyone 16 years and above. It is stated there should be at least an 8-week gap between doses for people aged 18 and over, and a 12-week gap between doses for 16 and 17-year-olds. The booster jab will also be available for anyone who is aged over 40 years if it’s been six months since their second dose. Women who are pregnant are also asked to take precaution from the deadly virus by taking the vaccine to help protect their unborn children from serious illness.

For those who might have any questions at all about the COVID or flu-jab, staff will be available to answer any question shoppers or on-lookers might have.

As part of the national scheme, the council has confirmed free parking for both the days to reduce any inconvenience it might cause to those travelling from a distance.

The Strategic Director of Public Health, Rachel Spencer-Henshall expresses, “Pop-up vaccination clinics have been a huge success in Kirklees making sure that vaccination programme leaves no-one behind. The additional push this weekend means that if you haven’t had a chance to get your jab yet, you can do so whilst doing your shopping”.

“We want to make it as simple and convenient as possible for everyone to get vaccinated so everyone can Enjoy Winter Safely. Taking the vaccine when it’s your turn is the best way to save lives and keep pressure off the NHS. It is safe, quick and significantly protects you from getting seriously ill with COVID-19. The more people that take it, the safer we all are and the sooner we can get back to normality.”

The Managing Director at Medicare Chemists, Mr Asghar Khan said, “We’re pleased to be working with Kirklees Council as part of their larger vaccination roll-out. Kingsgate Shopping Centre provides a great opportunity to allow people to access the vaccination service in a central location whilst enjoying some family time and shopping. I would encourage anyone eligible, to make the choice to protect their families and themselves and get their jab this weekend.”
