Police confirms death of an elderly gentleman at Keighley property fire days after Christmas

The man received treatment at the scene but died shortly after in hospital.

A man has tragically died following a house fire at a property in Keighley.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue firefighters were called to Elm Tree Close in the Long Lee area on Tuesday, 28 Decemeber.

A man in his 70s was reportedly given medical assistance at the scene by fire crews before being taken to hospital.  Firefighters from Keighley, Bingley and Shipley were in attendance and used four breathing apparatus sets, a hose reel and positive pressure ventilation fans to bring the fire under control.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

West Yorkshire Police officers have cordoned off the scene although the man’s death is not believed to be suspicious.

A representative for West Yorkshire police said: “At 7.23pm on 28 December police were called by the Fire Service to a report of a concern for safety after a house fire where a male was found to be unconscious on Elm Tree Close, Keighley.

“A male in his seventies was taken to hospital and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing although at this time the death is not being treated as suspicious.”
