The Roses Derby ends in a draw at Elland Road keeping Leeds unbeaten in their last seven

Manchester United travelled to Elland Road to take on rivals Leeds United in Sunday’s earliest Premier League fixture.

Leeds United vs Manchester United is one of the most highly anticipated matches in the Premier League calendar. In the last 10 competitive meetings between the two sides, the Red Devils have won seven, Leeds have won none, and they have drawn three games.

It was a tense atmosphere prior to the game, with the home side entering the match unbeaten in their last six. However, the Red Devils had only suffered one loss in their last seven before the match.

Manchester United had the ball in the back of the net after eight minutes, through Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha. However, the goal was disallowed due to an offside in the build-up. Benjamin Šeško, who was in an offside position, was involved in the action leading to the goal, which resulted in the strike being disallowed.

The best chance for the home side in the first 45 minutes came through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who saw a header crash against the post and bounce away from goal. He had scored six goals in his last seven appearances leading up to the match.

Lucas Perri made an exceptional save from close range, as he pushed over a header from Leny Yoro, who got a flick onto a Casemiro header inside the box.

At half-time, there were chances for both teams, but the deadlock was yet to be broken. In the second half, the home end in Elland Road burst into celebrations after 62 minutes.

Pascal Struijk played a ball in behind the Manchester United defence, and Brenden Aaronson seemed second best to get the ball, but he beat Ayden Heaven to the ball before coolly slotting home past Senne Lammens. Leeds fans were hoping that their side was on their way to securing first competitive win against the side from Old Trafford for the first time since 2010.

But Matheus Cunha quickly shattered their fans’ dreams three minutes later. Joshua Zirkzee, with his first pass in the game, played a precise ball in behind for the former Wolves attacker to get onto, before he rolled past a helpless Perri. Just three minutes was the gap between the goals, and the score was 1-1.

An acrobatic shot from Noah Okafor inside the box saw goalkeeper Lammens at full stretch diving to his left, to deny Daniel Farke’s team the lead.

Slovenian striker Šeško found himself inside the six-yard box free in space, but his shot towards goal whistled wide of the post. It was a golden opportunity for Ruben Amorim’s side to take the lead, but the chance was put wide.

The full-time score was Leeds United 1-1 Manchester United, with both sides securing a point. Leeds are now unbeaten in their last seven matches, sitting 16th in the table with 22 points.

Man United moved up to fifth at full-time, but following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City, Amorim’s team have returned to sixth place. They are on 31 points from 20 league games played.
