A man has been found guilty of murdering his step-mother in a shocking case that has left a Bradford family devastated.

Abdul Sami, 23, of Mannheim Road, was convicted on 17 March at Bradford Crown Court of the murder of 41-year-old Rizwana Kousar.
Emergency services were called to an address on Kensington Road on 15 August 2023, where Ms Kousar was found unconscious in a bath. She was taken to hospital but died two days later.
The court heard how Sami strangled his step-mother using her own headscarf in a brutal attack inside her home.
A post-mortem examination concluded that Ms Kousar died from a brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen.
Sami is due to be sentenced on 20 March.
In a heartfelt tribute, Ms Kousar’s family described her as a loving and selfless woman whose loss has left an irreplaceable void.
They said: “Rizwana was a cherished daughter, sister, auntie and friend, whose heart was always full of love and selflessness. Her kindness and generosity brought warmth and joy into countless lives.
“The void she has left is immeasurable, and our hearts are shattered by her absence.
“Nothing can erase the profound pain and devastation that has engulfed our family. We hope only to seek justice for Rizwana.
“We ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said the case had

been both complex and deeply distressing.
He said: “This was a deeply tragic case, and our thoughts remain with Rizwana’s family and all those affected by her death.
“This investigation has involved detailed and technical work over a significant period of time. We hope today’s verdict brings some measure of comfort to those grieving, and we will continue to support the family moving forward.”
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, as residents come to terms with the circumstances surrounding Ms Kousar’s death.
