A man from Bradford has been fined thousands of pounds after he was found guilty of arriving in England without testing for Covid-19 whilst on holiday.

Walid Mohammed, of Union Road, arrived at Manchester Airport on 11 March 2021, without any reasonable excuse for not booking a Day 2 and Day 8 test when abroad.

This was contrary to regulations at the time that meant all travellers coming into England were required to test negative twice during their quarantine period abroad, and travellers entering from red list countries must isolate in Government-approved hotels.

The 33-year-old was fined £1760, had to pay a £176 victim surcharge, and £90 in court costs.

Mr Mohammed has until 4 April to pay the £2,026 total.

The case for the offence ‘person arriving in England failing to possess coronavirus testing package’ was heard at Greater Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 7 March.
