Porter KO’d for the first time in his career. Crawford retains in ecstatic fashion!

Saturday night was a big fight night for millions across the world as they saw fan favourite Terence Crawford the 147lbs champion fight Shawn Porter in what was said one of the best fights of 2021.

Crawford the champion retained his WBO belt and advanced to 6 winning streak and an unblemished record of 38 wins with 0 losses after he TKO’d Porter in the tenth round of their fight.

Porter came out on top in the early exchanges in the first couple of rounds with the unofficial scoring card giving the rounds to Porter 10-9. The tide started to shift after Crawford adjusted to the brawler Porter was and started landing shots with precision and timing which impacted Porters ability to land clean shots as he was doing before.

Porter started getting frustrated as the Omaha native Crawford switched from southpaw to orthodox and kept landing more combos on Porter.

At exactly 2:46 in the tenth round, Crawford dropped Porter with a short-left hand after Porter came lunging in with a right hand of his own. Porter confused as to what happened looked at his long-time trainer and father, Kenny Porter and got up on the sixth count as the referee counted above him.

After Porter returned to his feet, the referee let the fight continue. Porter tried getting back into his rhythm but was dropped again at 1:57 with an overhand right. The frustration boiled over as Porter started smashing the ground with his glove realising he fell to the canvas again but once again got up.

Porter got up but his father Kenny knew his son Porter was no match for Crawford and threw in the towel to save his son. The crowd erupted after seeing Porter getting KO’d for the first time in his career and seeing Crawford retain his belt.

Audiences watching across the world saw the camera turn to another champion in the 147lbs division – Errol Spence who walked out of the arena after seeing Porter lose.

Fans took to social media how the much-anticipated fight between Errol Spence and Terrence Crawford is now on the horizon as both fighters have beaten everyone apart from Ugas who dethroned hall of famer Manny Pacquiao recently.

Both fighters are in the prime shape of their careers and boxing fans are eager to see both compete next year to settle the dispute of who is the best welterweight champion.

After the loss of Porter, Porter expressed how he did not want to continue fighting as he had fought everyone in the division. In the press conference after the fight, Porter with his head held high said he didn’t want to be known as the “gate-keeper” and not fight until his 40’s so hung up his gloves.

The welterweight division seems to be a division which has high drama and boxing fans are excited to see what happens in the years to come!
